Barium Sulphate Mineral
Barytes (Barite)
BaSO₄
High-gravity barytes processed to API and industrial grades. Valued for chemical inertness, high specific gravity, and whiteness. Used in oil drilling, industrial coatings, and high-density applications.
Key Benefits
Why formulators choose Barytes
01
Highest specific gravity (4.2–4.5 g/cm³) in our portfolio — essential for drilling mud density control and heavy-density concrete applications
02
Chemically inert across a broad pH range — suitable for acid-resistant and chemical-resistant coating systems over metal substrates
03
API-grade available (LM-BR-API) — meets American Petroleum Institute 13A specifications for oilfield drilling fluid applications
04
Low oil absorption (10–15 g/100g) — allows high loading levels in coatings without excessive binder demand, reducing cost per litre
05
Excellent X-ray and gamma-ray attenuation — used in radiation shielding mortars and specialised protective coatings for nuclear and medical facilities

FAQ
Common Buyer Questions
Questions we receive from procurement and technical teams before a first order. If your question isn’t listed, contact us directly.
Ask a Question →Does your barytes meet API specifications for drilling?
Yes — LM-BR-API meets API 13A specifications for barite in drilling fluids, including the required specific gravity (≥ 4.20 g/cm³), particle size distribution, and soluble alkaline earth metal content limits. A Certificate of Analysis with API parameters is issued with every batch.
Why is specific gravity important in barytes?
In drilling fluids, barytes is used to increase the density (weight) of the mud, which controls formation pressure and prevents blowouts. Higher specific gravity means more weighting effect per kilogram of material — which is why API grade mandates a minimum SG of 4.20 g/cm³.
What is barytes used for in industrial paints?
Barytes (BaSO₄) is used as a chemically inert, high-density extender in anti-corrosion and industrial maintenance coatings. Its low solubility and chemical resistance make it suited to protective coatings on steel, marine structures, and chemical plant equipment.
Is barytes hazardous or regulated?
Natural barytes (BaSO₄) is chemically inert and non-toxic under standard industrial handling conditions. It is not classified as hazardous under standard industrial chemical regulations. An SDS (Safety Data Sheet) is available on request with every order.
