Aluminium Silicate Mineral
China Clay (Kaolin)
Al₂Si₂O₅(OH)₄
Processed kaolin with controlled whiteness, particle size, and low impurity levels. Suitable for paper coating, paint extenders, and ceramic bodies. Air-classified variants available for specific micron requirements.
Key Benefits
Why formulators choose China
01
Platey particle structure improves barrier properties in paper coating — enhances ink holdout and print quality
02
Smoother paint film finish than calcium carbonate — contributes to a flatter, more uniform surface in premium interior paints
03
Lower oil absorption (28–45 g/100g) reduces binder demand in formulations — cost saving on expensive binder systems
04
High aspect ratio grades reduce gas permeability in rubber and plastic films — improves packaging shelf life
05
Controlled aluminium silicate chemistry — consistent colour response in ceramic glazes fired across different temperature ranges

FAQ
Common Buyer Questions
Questions we receive from procurement and technical teams before a first order. If your question isn’t listed, contact us directly.
Ask a Question →What is the difference between china clay and kaolin?
They are the same mineral — Al₂Si₂O₅(OH)₄. 'China clay' is the industry term commonly used in India and the UK; 'kaolin' is the mineralogical and international trade term. Our product is the same material and is labelled as both interchangeably.
Is your china clay suitable for paper coating?
Yes. LM-CK-05 (5 µm D97) is designed for paper coating applications where high brightness and fine particle size are required. A full data sheet including particle size distribution curve is available on request.
Can china clay replace TiO₂ as a paint extender?
China clay provides lower optical efficiency than calcium carbonate as a TiO₂ extender. However, its platey particle structure contributes to film formation, sheen control, and anti-settling — making it useful alongside calcium carbonate rather than as a sole TiO₂ replacement.
What particle size is suitable for ceramic glaze?
LM-CK-15 (15 µm D97) is suitable for most standard ceramic glaze applications. For fine art ceramics or technical ceramics with tighter tolerances, contact us with your target D50 or D90 requirement.
